The first few hours of this tragedy saw a large number of commentators asking why it was that alligators were being allowed inside a “closed environment” like Disney World. A day later it quickly became, “Hey, it’s Florida. What else do you expect?”
Look what now constitutes press scrutiny — PR work like this:
Lake Buena Vista, Florida (CNN)Alligator warning signs will be put up near all the waterways at Walt Disney World resorts following the death of a 2-year-old boy who was dragged into a lagoon two nights ago, a senior source at Disney told CNN on Thursday.
The move will happen as soon as possible, the source said.
Earlier, a spokeswoman for the popular tourist destination in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, said officials were reviewing the placement and wording of warning signs.
“We are conducting a swift and thorough review of all of our processes and protocols,” Walt Disney World Resort Vice President Jacquee Wahler said in a statement Thursday. “This includes the number, placement and wording of our signage and warnings.”
There are “No Swimming” signs at the lagoon, but there are no warning signs about alligators.
All the beaches at the resorts at Walt Disney World remain closed.
That’s swell of them. They’re making “big changes”! Who can criticize them now? Certainly not the rest of the corporate media, because they’re not any more.
Didn’t take the same company as long though to decide what to do about some of those other signs…
DISNEY BLOCKS SIGNS FROM MEDIA COVERAGE
While FTVLive agrees with Disney about not having alligator signs, we don’t not agree with this sign work.
Disney staffers were ordered to cover up signs on Disney property so they would not appear in live shots and stories. Crews were sent out to cover the Disney signs in black to keep the Disney name off the air.

It’s just so sad it took a young kids life to show what a horrible, greedy company Disney has become.
How’s ABC covering this? Again, anyone who lives in FL knows that you have to be vigilant anywhere near fresh water. Gators can be so stealth you won’t even know they are near. First rule of thumb, fresh or brackish water beware. Most people who go to Disneyworld are from elsewhere and they are sitting ducks. Just think if we had 100 mountain lions in the Verdugo area. (I know nature wouldn’t allow it but hypothetically…) And Disney opened a major tourist attraction to take bike rides in the hills at dusk. Anyone of us in the area would say you’re nuts. Someone from Japan would think it was cool!!!!!
