If you’re a Burbank resident you’ll probably come home tonight to a phone message that announces a sudden City of Burbank/Bob Hope Airport joint “questionnaire” about the future of that facility.
Hilariously, the link that both the phone message and the Leader are giving out doesn’t work. There ain’t nothing there.
Perfectly inept, yes; but we’d love to see what kind of push-poll tactics they’re using to propagandize the need for a greatly expanded airport facility. Their phony questions are bound to be a hoot.
Think there’ll be an option for, “cut the terminal size in half?”
But the real question is, why are we doing the airport’s PR legwork for them? Why are we enthusiastically “participating” in their own big-growth expansion effort?
In other words,
a) Why are we getting in bed with them on an expansion solicitation to the public? and,
b) Why don’t we do an airport questionnaire of our own?
Once we get to “participate” in this so-called Poll,
maybe we’ll get to “comment”.
How about changing the name back to Burbank Airport or Hollywood-Burbank Airport???
Maybe, if the name connoted some Regional Significance more of the traveling Public would be able to book tickets???
Or is that too “simple” of a solution to their dropping #’s.
With Revenues steadily dropping—they push for more Public Debt—for MORE PARKING???

The name was deliberately changed to ‘Bob Hope’ in order to glom off on all of the supposed goodwill that’s attached to this name.
As in, “you mean you don’t want to improve our Bob Hope Airport?!!!”
I complained about this phoniness at the time. The Leader would not print my letter.
I understand that the ambitious heirs also pushed for it as well, through Hastings et al.
Why am I not surprised that the Burbank Leader would not print your letter ? Opposing viewpoints are not welcome at the Burbank Leader and when it comes to news ? That’s not found in the Leader either.

It was funny and really stupid to change the name of the Burbank Airport to Bob Hope Airport from day one. Nobody knows where Bob Hope is because it”s not a city. Did you ever notice they stick tags on you suit cases that read BUR for BUrbank and they never used tags that said Hope because that could make your suitcases go to Hope Arkansas. So now we have an airport named Bob Hope and it stands as one more monument to absolute stupidity.
It was a PR stunt. I guarantee that within 30 years the name will be changed back. It will be like having named it ‘Eddie Cantor Airport’ in the 30s.

All PR stunts as well. Two of them were at least President–and RR’s was blatant GOP propaganda. They’ve been going around for years making sure that reagan gets memorialized everywhere.
But a hundred years from now it will be like Chester A. Arthur airport.
The Burbank Airport has such bad PR tied to it for years of abuse to the community the experts probably thought changing the name to Bob Hope Airport would make every feel all warm and fuzzy. I don’t think so … it is still the Burbank Airport no matter what name you hang on the building or try to sell. And, the selling is not going too well. The flying public today knows very little about Bob Hope and could care less. It is always better to have the name of the location tied to an airport name. People can find it that way but it’s fine with me if they continue down this road, eventually maybe everyone will forger about the Burbank Airport and just fly in and out of LAX anyway.
One of the drafters of the agreement between Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena stood up at a meeting several years before he passed away an reaffirmed the intent of the Burbank Airport. The original councils of the 3 cities and the airport authority intended it to be the “reliever airport” for LAX. This is the reason they have always wanted a massive expansion because LAX is reaching its maximum capacity. The only people who were not told this at the time were the voters of Burbank.
The other day I urged a younger person who’s interested in the business to be sure to watch a Jack Benny program that had Bob Hope on as the guest star.
Their response?
“Who?”
I heard they have plans to rename the airport GOLONKSI-LUDDY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, complete with a statue of the dynamic duo standing in the middle of the runway.
This video has got to be from over a year ago because Reinke was still mayor and still no accounting for how much has been spent on legal costs to hide everything that went wrong at city hall ?

Frankly, all this renaming is complete bullshit. But, understanding this city’s afinity to bullshit I have a few suggestions for the new airport name, Georgino Airport, Cusumano Airport, Flad Hooker Couriers Inc., and if the city doesn’t believe any of those names are suitable I guess we could return to just being called the Burbank Airport. The marketing campaign should be “Burbank Airport-Our problems are soaring to new heights!”
We can still “make-a-difference” in meaningful ways.
The performance of staff would NOT be tolerated in the real World of Business.
There is no reason for us to believe that the Public is treated any better when seeking assistance over the counter or over the phone than the way they “perform” at the podium.
Staff has demonstrated little respect for our Elected Officials for quite some time, let alone the Public.
Now is the time for us to pay even closer attention to those who applied for “Public Service Jobs”.
More attention, more comparing thoughts, more effort to “oversight” may actually result in PERFORMANCE & ACCOUNTABILITY.
It’s worth the effort. It’s still OUR City!!!!
